Dice Games

While many games use dice for random number generation, dice games are ones in which rolling the dice to achieve various specific results is the focal point of gameplay. These games may use standard 6-sided dice or custom dice. Dice games often incorporate a “press-your-luck” component, in which a player can roll one or more dice multiple times to achieve a desired combination, with a significant penalty for failing to do so. Yahtzee or craps are classic examples of dice games; modern examples include King of Tokyo, Machi Koro, and Sagrada. For further information, watch our video on “Why Are Dice Dice-Shaped?”
